Conflict in relationships
As you become more independent you will not always have the same ideas, opinions or values as your friends and family . These difference in opinions can lead to conflict .
How to mange conflict situations
Situations where people do not agree on something are not always easily solved. There many not be a right or wrong answer. The important factor in conflict resolution is that the issue is worked out fairly, without violence and both parties walk away smiling.
WORKBOOK TASK: Read the following scenarios and decide which of the above conflict resolution strategies you would choose for each of the different situations and say why? Write the heading for each scenario like GRANDPA and then which strategy ( in the above cartoon) and explain why.
Grandpa: Every summer your work for your grandpa doing odd jobs around his farm. You enjoy the work and really like having extra money for the school year. But this year, your grandpa has also hired his neighbor’s son, Curtis, to help out. Slowly, Curtis is taking more and more of your jobs. Some days you arrive and your grandpa has nothing for you to do! You don’t know Curtis that well, but feel like you should have first pick of the jobs. You’re the grandson, after all!
Friends Jimbo and I have been best mates since kindy, we started secondary school this year and I have made some new friends. Unfortunately they think Jimbo is a bit strange, and make fun of him behind his back. How can I be friends with everyone.

Bullying is often a conflicting situation that some adolescence find themselves in. It is a balance struggle for the person bullying who is trying to gain power over the victim who often finds themselves with lowered self-esteem and struggling to fit in.
